Frequently Asked
Questions
Why is the Village of Algonquin constructing this project?
The project was identified in the 2013 Woods Creek Watershed plan as a location within the watershed in need of restoration. The site has various water quality, habitat, and stormwater issues that will all be addressed as part of this project.
When will the project be completed?
The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July, 2025.
How will the site look when completed?
The site will look similar to the other completed creek restoration projects upstream from the job site. For a look at an established site you can view the restorations around Woods Creek at Spella Park.
Will any trees be removed as part of this project?
Yes. The majority of the trees on the project site will be removed. The existing trees are primarily invasive species and have grown in the past 20-30 years. Installation of quality native trees will be completed as part of this project. New trees will be spaced widely apart throughout the site so that sunlight is still allowed to reach the ground.
What is a stream “reach”?
During the watershed planning process, each stream and river is broken up into sections based on size and geography. These smaller sections of stream are labeled as “reaches” and typically begin with “Reach 1” at the headwaters and progress sequentially downstream. By breaking the stream into smaller sections, it is easier to phase restoration work and makes describing specific areas of a stream more consistent.
