Project Overview

The Woods Creek Reach 6/7 Project will restore 1,200 linear feet of Woods Creek as well as a 2,200 linear foot tributary that extends to the east and connects to the Meijer storm water detention basin. Improvements will include pulling back and reshaping the eroded creek banks, armoring portions of the creek bank that will receive erosive water flows, and installing native vegetation to stabilize the surrounding soils. The Village has completed similar ecological restoration projects within the Woods Creek watershed and the results have created beautifully restored areas.

Primary Goals

  • Stabilize 1,200 L.F. of eroded stream channel and 2,200 L.F. of tributary channel

  • Install in-stream riffles (shallow places where the stream can flow quickly past rocks) which will improve oxygenation and provide additional habitat for aquatic life

  • Re-establish the floodplain area with native vegetation

  • Remove invasive trees and shrubs within the stream corridor and storm water basins

  • Install native vegetation and pollinator habitat throughout the site
